In every school, there are educators who leave a lasting mark, not only through their teaching, but through the way they show up with passion, heart, and purpose. Emily Manuel, a teacher at Everbrook Academy in Bristow, Virginia, is one of those educators.
As a 2025 Teacher of the Year Finalist, she embodies so many things we value in early childhood education: connection, compassion, and the power of believing in every child’s potential.
Emily’s teaching journey began with a desire to be a steady, encouraging presence in the lives of young learners. “There’s something incredibly special about those early years,” she says. “Watching young children discover what they’re capable of and helping them feel proud of who they are, that’s what drew me in. Teaching gives me the opportunity to create a warm, supportive space where every child feels seen, valued, and excited to explore the world around them.”
Being named a Teacher of the Year Finalist is an honor Emily doesn’t take lightly. “It’s overwhelming in the best way,” she shares. “To me, it’s not just about my work. It’s a celebration of early childhood education and the incredible growth that happens in those first years. At the end of the day, it’s all about the kids. They’re the reason I show up every day, and they’re the reason this honor means so much.”
For Emily, the heart of teaching is rooted in connection. Her favorite part of the job is watching her students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. “It’s about showing up every day with heart,” she says. “Helping children feel capable, important, and loved. That’s what makes it all worth it.”
When thinking about what’s next, Emily is focused on continuing to create a classroom where children feel safe, empowered, and excited to learn. She also hopes to mentor new teachers and champion the importance of play-based, relationship-centered learning. “Early childhood sets the tone for everything,” she explains. “My goal is to keep growing, keep learning, and keep showing up for my students and colleagues.”
Her advice to new or aspiring teachers is: “Lead with your heart. Don’t lose sight of your ‘why.’ Celebrate the small wins, be gentle with yourself, and remember you are helping shape someone’s story in a beautiful way.” Emily Manuel’s impact is felt beyond her classroom. Her dedication and belief in her students make her a true example of what it means to teach with purpose.
Thank you, Emily, for turning everyday moments into something extraordinary. Your recognition as a Teacher of the Year Finalist is well-deserved!
